Top 5...Things to do in Singapore by Warren Prentice

Don't dismiss Singapore as just an airport layover on the way to Australia or New Zealand. It is a great city destination in its own right and here's five great things to do whilst you're there....
1. Visit Gardens by the Bay. Lush tropical gardens surround a Mediterranean-themed "Flower dome" and a Tropical -themed "Cloud Dome". There's also the amazing man-made Supertree grove. Visit in the evening when it's all lit up and a bit cooler.

2. Visit Little India. See Singapore as it used to be. Bright, busy and a little gritty, Little India is a colourful, atmospheric and authentic taste of the city state's diversity - a literal taste if you try some of the great street food in a hawker centre.

3. Hang out at Raffles Hotel Long Bar. Yes, it's expensive, but a Singapore Sling in this icon of colonial history is a must. Currently closed for refurbishment but expected to re-open in early 2019.
4. Go shopping. Orchard Road is lined by upmarket malls and the brand-new Marina Bay complex even has its own canal with boats! Shopping is Singapore's unofficial national sport so join the locals in checking out a bargain or two.
5. Visit the National Gallery. The new home for an impressive collection of South-East Asian art is a work of art in its own right. The building is a wonderful, award-winning conversion of the old law courts and civic hall. Light, airy and a lovely place to find peace and quiet in the hustle of the city.
